REVOLUTIONIZING FIRE TESTING
METODOS
"Transforming Traditional Fire Testing
with a new patented 2-step approach"
What do we do?
We offer a new platform for doing fire testing of safety-critical objects.
At Metodos, we are dedicated to advancing fire testing through innovation while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability. Our groundbreaking two-step approach delivers faster, efficient, and more cost-effective fire testing with improved accuracy and a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to the traditional approach offered by fire laboratories around the world. It is developed for companies dealing in the passive fire protection space.
Our stakeholders will achieve reliable, sustainable results while contributing to a cleaner and greener future. The Metodos 2-step process enables findings to be translated into reusable results for long-term value with Type Approval Certificates (TAC´s) issued by classification bodies (currently DNV).

How do we do it?
Built on internationally recognised standards, including ISO-22899-1, ISO-22899-3, EN-1363-2, and UL-1709. The Metodos concept was developed in close collaboration with DNV (Det Norske Veritas). The Metodos 2-step approach separates the testing of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) materials from the actual objects requiring passive fire protection (PFP), offering a unique and more efficient approach in all aspects. We call it de-coupling.
The two-step process involves:
Step 1: Testing PFP materials in a large-scale fire test under current standards without the actual object requiring the PFP. Step 1 will generate a response curve inside of the “empty” PFP system. Let's call it the DNA of the PFP! The resulting response curve will be re-used in Step 2
Step 2: In this step, we replicate the response curve found in Step 1 inside a computer controlled electrical fuelled furnace. It is in Step 2 that the actual object that is in need of PFP is tested.
Consequently, the heat sink effect is captured and one can monitor to the second when the actual object breaks down or reaches the limiting temperature.
This 2-step decoupled approach achieves efficiency without sacrificing the rigor of large-scale fire testing. The Metodos methodology is versatile and applicable to safety-critical components such as cables, steel pipework, fireboxes, actuators, emergency shutdown valves (ESDVs), flanges, and valves.

Current Status
The Metodos 2-step methodology is fully approved and supported by DNV for use on safety-critical cables requiring passive fire protection (PFP). Following over five years of rigorous engineering, development and testing togheter with DNV, the Metodos approach is now commercially available to select Tier 1 asset owners. DNV is actively issuing official Type Approval Certificates for products derived from the Metodos approach for safety critical cables.

Circular Results in Fire Testing
The DNA of the passive fire protection system is generated in STEP 1. It is referred to the response curve. This curve is circular in nature for a given passive fire protection product and can be reused indefinitely
Imagine if you want to certify e.g. a firebox for 20 different objects.
If the thickness of the passive fire protection technology is a constant, you only have to do the large-scale fire test one time.
The resulting response curve an be re-used 20 times for 20 different objects inside the smaller electrical furnace Metodos container at a considerable lower cost.
Traditional fire testing:
20 large scale fire tests (ISO-22899-3) for 60 minutes will release the following amount of Co2:
66 tons of Co2
Metodos fire testing:
1 large-scale fire test executed (ISO-22899-3) for 60 minutes gives of 3,3 tons of Co2. The resulting reponse curve will be re-used 20 times inside the Metodos container powered by renewable energy.
3,3 tons of Co2
All this while meeting the highest standards of accuracy and complying to global ISO standards and achiving Type Approval Certificate for 20 objects with over 90% savings in Co2 emission!

WHY CHOOSE METODOS?
Metodos provides a range of key advantages for chosen Tier 1 stakeholders and partners
1. Reduced Carbon Footprint : A sustainable,
eco-conscious approach to fire testing.
2. Reusable Response Curves : Reliable data that eliminates the need for repetitive large-scale testing.
3. Fact-Based Results : More dependable and factual outcomes grounded in practical testing, not theoretical models.
4. Cost Efficiency : Significantly lower costs compared to traditional testing methods for generating several Type Approval Certificates (TAC´s).
5. Fast Turnaround : Receive Step 2 results within 48 hours for rapid decision-making.
6. Enhanced Project Flexibility : Conduct project-specific testing during construction phases with ease and at a fraction of the cost to solve clash- problems or other events.
